Karen and Gilles are a Dutch couple who have been living in Mexico City for a couple of years. Both of them had already visited the city of Mérida a few times already as they had fallen in love with the culture, the food, and the haciendas that the state has to offer. That is why, while deciding the perfect venue for their wedding, they didn’t have any doubts about celebrating their wedding in Yucatán.
After touring different haciendas, the couple decided that Sac Chich was the one to be the chosen one to witness their union.
On the day of the wedding, the bride and groom arrived at the hacienda to have the getting ready. While Karen had her hair and makeup done, Gilles enjoyed a moment at the pool with his friends.
With the help of her mother, Karen put on her boho-style dress. It was beige with rhinestone details that made the beautiful Dutch girl look amazing and fresh on her wedding day. Meanwhile, Gilles in the company of his brothers, brother-in-law, best friend, and father was in another room wearing a navy blue suit, white shirt, and a coral tie.
A beautiful bride for a beautiful wedding
The moment of the first look was surprising and emotional as Gilles was waiting for his future wife in the garden of Sisal’s house. When the groom saw her he could not believe how beautiful Karen was. After this, they both decided to have the first photoshoot and then go back to the family to continue creating memories with them.
A Dutch-style celebration
Finally, it was time for the ceremony in charge of the couple’s siblings. They created a very intimate moment of celebration in typical Dutch style that lasted about 45 minutes. After exchanging vows Karen and Gilles performed a traditional Dutch ritual where they both drank from a bowl which typically would be a local Dutch drink but on this occasion, they exchanged it with tequila.
At the end of the ceremony, all the guests enjoyed a cocktail reception with live music by a jazz band that sweetened the ears of all the guests who happily enjoyed good drinks and good music. Once the reception was ready, the now newly married couple and all their guests went to the main garden of the hacienda where a natural boho-style setup was waiting for them.
The buffet was made up of typical Yucatecan food whose flavors and textures pleased the palates of the guests who tasted it for the first time. The entire dinner was filled with speeches from Karen and Gilles’ family and friends who were delighted to be able to share this happy moment with everyone.
Amazing dance skills
Once dinner was over, Karen and her father moved to the center of the dance floor and danced to a beautiful melody that would give way to the surprise that the bride and groom had prepared. Karen’s father gave his daughter’s hand to Gilles and suddenly a salsa song began to play, the couple amazed all their guests who were surprised with the skills of both. The fireworks marked the end of their dance and with it, they invited everyone else to join the party that they loved like never before.
